WELCOME TO EMPOWER CAMP

Date: June 21-26, 2026

Theme: MOVE. DISCOVER. EMPOWER YOURSELF.

Location: Washington State School for the Blind Campus and Community 

The Washington State School for the Blind (WSSB) invites blind and low vision youth ages 11–14 to participate in Empower Camp, a dynamic residential summer program combining adaptive sports, STEM exploration, and confidence-building experiences. 

Empower Camp blends physical activity with hands-on learning, helping students discover new interests, strengthen independence, and build skills that support lifelong success. 

 

WHAT CAMPERS WILL DO

Participants will engage in a balanced schedule of sports, recreation, and STEM learning activities designed specifically for blind and low vision students. 

Adaptive Sports Experiences May Include: 

  • Blind soccer 

  • Goalball 

  • Rock climbing 

  • Cricket 

  • Team challenges and cooperative games 

STEM Learning Activities Include: 

  • Hands-on science and engineering challenges 

  • Problem-solving and design activities 

  • Technology exploration 

  • Collaborative learning projects connecting movement and STEM concepts 

Campers will also enjoy evening recreation, social activities, and opportunities to build friendships in a supportive residential environment.

Dates: June 21–26, 2026 

  • June 21: Arrival and move-in 

  • June 22–26: Camp programming 

  • Departure: Noon on June 26

Cost: FREE for all accepted campers

 

WHO SHOULD APPLY

Empower Camp is designed for: 

  • Blind and low vision youth ages 11–14 

  • Students interested in sports, movement, and hands-on learning 

  • Campers ready to try new activities and build independence 

  • Students who enjoy teamwork, exploration, and fun challenges 

No prior sports or STEM experience is required.
